The Whiteley Homes Trust has been supporting older people in need for over a century, offering housing to 350 people in their beautiful retirement village.
The client wanted a new website with improved navigation, and revised architecture and layout so it's easier to find primary information. The old site did not really appeal to their key audiences, offered poor UX and featured dry, unappealing content.

First we explored the clients key audiences and developed user journey for each, showing their main actions on the website. Using these new user journey's we developed a revised sitemap, minimising clicks to each section and helping people find what they need.
We then created wireframes for each main page. This meant we could prioritise the right content and break up text sections. We included galleries and strong Calls To Action (CTA) where appropriate.
Next, we expanded the brand with the new lime colour to compliment the dark blue, making the site brighter. The new colour is used to highlight important buttons on the site to guide users.
A custom donation system was integrated into the site to offer single and monthly donations and to keep users on the site, rather than going away to a third party platform.
Attracting more volunteers is key to the charities plans, so we created a dedicated section by job roles. This allows people thinking of volunteering to quickly see what roles are available that suit them.
A mega menu navigation with keyword search was added to help users find what they want quickly, vastly simplifying the old websites huge list of pages in it's navigation panel.
Whilst designing the site, we organised drone video and photography to support the clients existing images and videos. It was essential to show users the extend of The Whiteley Village and everything that it offers, and the drone videos really do this.
A custom accessibility widget was added to allow the changing of contrast and text size to aid users who may be visually impaired.
The client are delighted with the websites CMS (Content Management System) and once trained, were able to dive in and help finalise the content throughout the site prior to launch.
The project has been a huge success in the following ways...
