Using ChatGPT to write your blog posts offers several benefits and drawbacks. Here are the pros and cons of utilizing ChatGPT for this purpose.

Pros:

Time-saving: ChatGPT can generate content quickly, helping you save time and effort in the writing process. It can generate ideas, provide structure, and even draft sections of your blog post, making the writing process more efficient.

Versatility: ChatGPT can cover a wide range of topics, making it suitable for various blog niches and subjects. It can adapt to different writing styles and tones, allowing you to customize the content to match your brand or audience.

Language fluency: ChatGPT is trained on a vast amount of text data, enabling it to generate coherent and grammatically correct sentences. It can help you maintain a high level of language proficiency in your blog posts.

Creative input: ChatGPT's ability to generate ideas and suggest unique perspectives can be valuable in brainstorming sessions. It can provide fresh insights, unique angles, and alternative viewpoints, enhancing the creativity of your blog posts.

Continuous availability: ChatGPT is accessible 24/7, allowing you to work on your blog posts whenever you need to. You don't have to wait for human assistance or be limited by time zone differences.

Cons:

Lack of human touch: ChatGPT, being an AI model, lacks the human touch and understanding that comes with personal experience and emotions. It may struggle to capture nuances, cultural references, or context-specific elements that a human writer would naturally incorporate.

Limited domain knowledge: While ChatGPT has a vast knowledge base, its information is based on the data it was trained on, which may not include the most up-to-date or specialized domain knowledge. It is important to fact-check and verify any specific or technical information provided by ChatGPT.

Quality consistency: As an AI model, ChatGPT's output may not consistently meet the highest quality standards. It can produce grammatical errors, generate incomplete or irrelevant sentences, or provide inaccurate information. Manual editing and proofreading are necessary to ensure the final blog post meets your desired level of quality.

Originality concerns: ChatGPT may rely on patterns or phrases from the training data, potentially leading to unintentional similarities with existing content. Plagiarism checks and careful editing are essential to maintain originality and avoid copyright issues.

Lack of personal voice: ChatGPT may struggle to capture your unique voice and personal style as a writer. Your blog posts may feel less authentic or reflective of your individuality compared to content produced by a human writer.

Conclusion:

Using ChatGPT to write blog posts can be a valuable tool for generating ideas, improving efficiency, and enhancing creativity. However, it is important to be aware of its limitations, such as the lack of a human touch, potential inaccuracies, and the need for manual editing. To maximize the benefits of ChatGPT, it is recommended to use it as a collaborative tool alongside human input, editing, and quality assurance to ensure your blog posts meet the desired standards of quality, accuracy, and authenticity.

Update - brief the bot!

I spoke to someone the other day at a networking event who mentioned how important it is to correctly brief ChatGPT.  What this means, is you need to ask it how to write your piece.  Using a better brief you can get more from it.

The below example shows how ChatGPT can really spice up some boring content:

ChatGPT: Brief it to make content more exciting

And ask ChatGPT to add a call to action, encouraging your audience to go and do something straight away:

Brief ChatGPT to write a call to action

A note from a human:

Hi, Dave here and I promise you I am human!  But everything above, including the introduction was written by Artificial Intelligence (AI), more specifically the world-famous Chat GPT.

I asked Chat GPT to write this post as an example of what an AI chatbot can produce for you.  The question I asked was simply: "The pros and cons of using ChatGPT to write your blog posts".

If you haven't heard of Chat GPT, I will let it introduce itself:

ChatGPT is a language model developed by OpenAI. It is based on the GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) architecture, specifically the GPT-3.5 variant. ChatGPT is designed to generate human-like text responses given a prompt or a conversation.

The model is trained on a massive amount of text data from the internet, allowing it to learn patterns, grammar, and semantics of human language. It can understand and generate text in multiple languages and is capable of conversing on a wide range of topics.

ChatGPT operates by predicting the most likely next word or phrase given the context it is provided. It utilizes deep learning techniques, specifically transformer models, to process and generate coherent and contextually relevant responses.

The goal of ChatGPT is to generate natural language text that is similar to human-generated content. It can be used for various applications, such as answering questions, engaging in conversations, providing information, offering suggestions, and even creative writing.

It is important to note that ChatGPT is an AI model and should be used with caution. While it can generate impressive responses, it is not infallible and may produce incorrect or nonsensical output. Users should critically evaluate and verify the information provided by ChatGPT when necessary.

OpenAI has continually improved upon the GPT model, and there may be newer versions available beyond the knowledge cutoff of this AI model (September 2021).

Chat GPT is practically a household name now, like Google.  AI is in the news all the time and businesses are starting to leverage the power of AI to automate processes.

As Chat GPT mentions above, the copy it generates is quite lacking in terms of personality.  It delivers the facts and is a great tool for research and content ideas, but the result is quite "dry".

Copywriters will inject more personality into your website, brochure or social media posts.  On product or service landing pages, good Copywriters will be able to create copy that converts much better than a page of pure technical blurb.

They can also use humour to lighten the mood and write copy that is more personal to the reader.  This helps build that essential "connection" with your audience, which ultimately can lead to more sales.

Another thing Copywriters can do is a better job at optimising your pages for search engines too, with the right keywords for each page, placed carefully, so they are not over or underused on the page.  Search engines like Google will then find these and start to rank the page for those terms.

ChatGPT reminds me of Google when I first used it over 20 years ago.  You can use it as a search/research tool and it quickly returns results, without any fuss.  That's where Google were when they were competing with the likes of Yahoo, MSN and Alta Vista.  Google offered a faster alternative with less clutter on the screen, helping people find answers to their questions in a more efficient way.  Now Google has some competition with Chat GPT, because it can deliver the right result without the need to click through to a website, let alone the other 9 on page one.  Of course, Chat GPT is not really a search engine, it is a chatbot or personal assistant, it's just possible to see some crossover there with Google.

According to SEO.ai, content made in ChatGPT can rank on Google, but it's hard to know at the moment if Google's algorithm can detect AI created content and rank it accordingly.

With the rise of AI generated content, I personally believe that Google are going to be focusing on working out whether your web pages have been written by AI or by a human and will probably "personality test" your copy to determine how much users will enjoy reading it.  They'll then rank your site higher, based on the "enjoyment factor".

I think Chat GPT does a great job of giving you the "bones" of an article.  You can then fact-check and build on this to create something more human.  AI is a great tool and if you have writers block or run out of talent, then Chat GPT can be used to find more ideas around your article to help you create better content.
